Auditorium to serve as Azerbaijan Cultural Promotion Center

An Azerbaijan Studies Auditorium named after Azerbaijani scientist Professor Shakiba Ahmedova was opened at the Samarkand State Institute of Economics and Services in the Uzbek capital to mark the 100th anniversary of her birth. The auditorium was brought to life through the initiative of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Uzbekistan and the Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijan Cultural Center.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Rector of the Institute Assoc. Prof. Azizjan Berdumuradov emphasized that the opening of this auditorium will further advance cooperation between higher education institutions of the two countries.

Hüseyin Guliyev, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Uzbekistan, noted that relations between the two countries have risen to the level of strategic partnership in recent years. Guliyev said, "Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are undertaking major projects not only in the political and economic spheres, but also in culture, science, and education. This chair opened in Samarkand is a vivid example of scientific and cultural integration between the two peoples."

Ambassador Guliyev also praised Prof. Ahmedova's services to scientific and public life in Samarkand and stated that keeping her name alive would inspire younger generations. Prof. Ahmedova's daughter, Sevinj Mammadova, also expressed her gratitude for the loyalty and interest shown in memory of her mother.

Other scientists and public figures attending the event also spoke highly of Prof. Ahmedova's pedagogical skills and her contributions to science and society.

Auditorium to Become a Center for Promoting Azerbaijani Culture

It was stated that the newly opened auditorium will serve as an important center for promoting Azerbaijani history and culture, beyond being merely a memorial site. The hall displays publications on Azerbaijani history, literature, and culture, books about the life of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and various cultural artifacts.

In the future, Azerbaijani language classes, seminars, and various cultural events are planned to be held in this auditorium.
